ACTION ALERT
Urge the state Legislature to vote NO on Anti-Stem Cell Research Bills

Dear stem cell research supporter,

Stem cell research in Michigan is under attack and we need your help today! Last month, the Senate Health Policy Committee approved politically motivated and dangerous legislation that obstructs important stem cell research that can save lives. These bills are poised to come before the full state Legislature. We need your help in opposing these bills, Senate Bills 647-652.

Once a week and beginning today, please call your state representative and state senator and urge them to vote NO on Senate Bills 647-652. Believe that your calls and emails DO make a difference!

Specifically, tell your legislators:

  1. This legislation would hamper life-saving research into cures and treatments for many injuries and diseases, such as cancer, juvenile diabetes, spinal cord injuries, Parkinson’s, ALS, and Alzheimer’s.
  2. These bills are a politically motivated move designed to reverse the will of the people, who voted in 2008 in support of modernizing Michigan’s outdated stem cell law.
  3. Stem cell research can attract new investments, federal funds and new opportunities to Michigan. With strong regulations existing already at an institutional and federal level, stem cell research will benefit both patients and our economy.

To find out who your representative is and get his or her contact info, visit http://house.michigan.gov/find_a_rep.asp. Look up your senator by going to http://www.senate.michigan.gov and clicking “Find Your Senator” on the left.

If you call and get a voice mail, please make sure you leave a message calling on your representative or senator to oppose the bills and stand up for patients.

Please consider attending our “Capitol Day” on Tuesday, Feb. 23. Numerous stem cell research supporters will be meeting directly with their representatives and senators and urging them to vote NO on this dangerous legislation. Please e-mail me at smeichner@sbcglobal.net with your name, email, city and telephone number if you’d like to attend the MCSCRC Stem Cell Research Capitol Day.

If you can’t attend, please make sure to call your representative and senator today and urge them to vote NO on Senate Bills 647-652. Your voice made a difference in the passage of Proposal 2. For our patients and citizens, let’s make sure your voice continues to be heard.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Sophia M. Eichner
